In order for us to save time and effort, I would want to present our concepts first before we proceed with the final design and production of our Manila ManiLAH Concert Poster.
This design process is an important one, because this poster design would be adapted to our different visual communication mediums such as web banners, flyers, facebook page, programme, etc.
I am hereby proposing these three main concepts for our poster:
Concept 1:This design process is an important one, because this poster design would be adapted to our different visual communication mediums such as web banners, flyers, facebook page, programme, etc.
I am hereby proposing these three main concepts for our poster:
DESIGN: Minimalist
Art Direction and Execution: Vector Graphics, Silhouette
Colours: 2 colour
INSIGHTS:
I'm thinking of using symbols of Manila/Philippines and Singapore for the silhouette.
The silhouettes must be distinct and easily recognizable. It's quite easy for Singapore, as we can just use the Merlion and/or Esplanade.
For Manila/Philippines, some images that comes to mind are jeepneys, calesa, ice-cream vending carts, Intramuros. I need inputs for these, but do take note that the creation of these vectors would take some time to do.
We can place Psalmideo's logo at the TOP part, something like
"Psalmideo Presents..."
Manila ManiLAH will be in reverse white against the silhouette.
Concept 2:
DESIGN: Illustration
Art Direction and Execution: Watercolour Illustration
Colours: multi-coloured but not too "festive"
INSIGHTS:
I'm thinking of creating a watercolour illustration of a jeepney that shows the front view of the vehicle.
The top part/nameplate area of the jeepney will be our Manila ManiLAH Concert Title. It will showcase the traditional elements of our jeepneys; on one side will be a horse icon and on the other side will be the Merlion. We can even place miniature flags of the Philippines and Singapore. "Byaheng Psalmideo" can be placed in the nameplate area for destination.
This is my favourite concept from all of these three options. The only problem that I can see in this concept is that I would need at least 1 week lead time for me to finish the illustration. I can only work on this illustration over the weekend and after office hours. Add to that the lead time for the actual layout and placement of text.
Concept 3:
DESIGN: Photography
Art Direction and Execution: Combination of Photography and Graphic Text
Colours: multi-coloured but not too "festive"
INSIGHTS:
The poster below is an ad campaign from Absolut Vodka.
The concept will be the same as Concept 2 except that we will be using photography and some CGI instead of using illustrations.
The design problem that this concept poses is that we don't have a hi-resolution stock photo of a jeepney. Alternatively, I can re-create a photo-realistic image of a jeepney through Adobe Photoshop but this process can also be tedious. I would also need at least one week to finish the production of the image.
Your comments will be highly appreciated. We need to agree on the concept ASAP so that the team can kickstart on the actual production process.

ReplyDeleteI like both 2 and 3, but leaning more towards 2. Because we have quirky fun concert name, i was thinking that the poster/ promo materials should be too. So "colorful", "vibrant","quirky", "fun",are adjectives i think of for the materials. The materials should make you stop, consider and smile, and also leave you with the impression that it's a choral concert. Which is why I am not so much for option 1; that makes me think of a straight play, or avant-garde film. Nice though.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say (but i am saying it anyway), keep in mind "classy", "tasteful", "elegance".

Yup, I'm also leaning towards concept 2. :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jessette,
ReplyDeleteI like to concept# 2 since it will be more artsy and less white space. We can leverage on the symbolism and elements that is Manila and Singapore in the poster as you rightly pointed out. But this is hardwork considering that illustrations has to be improvised and adjusted. I like the Merlion idea...suggestion over the kabayo is the Sarimanok. You can use the concert dates imbedded in the plates of the jeepney...though we will still specify anyways somewhere in the Poster...We need to put some elements that this is going to be a choral event also...not sure where to put that but I think this element is also important...
forgot to mention also...one nice thing about the jeepney concept is you can freely put any elements....and it is busy by nature...just have to make sure it looks balanced.
